The Sunset that surprised me

So last Friday night at the last minute decided to dash out for a sunset shot, running around collecting all my bits and bobs I was out. With not a cloud in the sky except for a cloud bank on the horizon I don’t normally expect much, but just sometimes..... just sometimes we, as landscape photographers get surprised by what we are given. Shooting with no clouds poses a serious contrast problem btw, lights and shadows and often there are issues when blending them together, even when you bracket the images and flatten them together to make one image to work with. With this image it did not work, there was a distinct white halo/line created on the edge of the castle all along the top, which many people may not notice if you don’t know to look for it. So I ended at using two images for light and shadow, and a 3rd image for the sea. Shooting this image trying to get it right in one shot would have been pretty much impossible with filters.

I walked around the farmers field to get to my location as there were cows in the field and did not want to disturb them, which meant walking along the clifftop edge, at times really close to it, so one need to be sure footed….. does that sound exciting or scary… nah it’s not that bad but sounded good right, ok I digress.

Now my location was a little sketchy basically I was at the cliff edge with water running down from the embankment I slid down to get to my spot, but once there, all was good. The reason I had chosen this location was because this castle has been shot to death and from here I was only able to find one other image, so at least for a little while its a fresh’ish location. The wind was calm, the air cool BUT not cold, a really lovely evening to spend next to Dunluce castle that has been sitting there since the 16th century, Now aint that a Thing.

Print enquiries welcome. Shop local keep the artisan and local artists employed. Seriously though let me know if you interested in a print there are many options available.
